A group of talented young French musicians recently performed in Klaipeda, presenting a diverse program of orchestral music. The repertoire included Richard Strauss’s symphonic poem, “Thus Spoke Zaratustra,” Maurice Ravel’s “Dafnio ir Chlojės” suite No. 2, and the well-known “Boléro.”
The performance of Strauss’s demanding score presented a significant technical challenge for the ensemble.
To achieve the required rich orchestral sound, the piece was notably featured with the accompaniment of eight oboe players. In contrast, the work by M. Ravel showcased a different aspect of the orchestra’s capability, revealing a clearer, more colorful, and subtle sonic palette.
The concert was met with a very positive reception from the audience. The young musicians, along with their conductor, K. Poska, received numerous commendations for their efforts.
The performing group is the French National Youth Symphony Orchestra, comprised of musicians aged 16 to 24 hailing from various parts of France. For many of the members, this trip represented a formative and potentially inaugural professional experience. The performance highlighted the considerable skill level of the French contingent.
By tackling varied and technically demanding music, the orchestra demonstrated both technical proficiency and artistic depth. The successful outing in Klaipeda marked a significant milestone for these young artists as they continue to develop their skills within the professional sphere of classical music.
