The Lithuanian Ministry of Health updated the composition of the National Cancer Council

The Ministry has announced that the renewed activities of the national oncology council aim to significantly enhance the development and execution of national cancer policy. The primary objectives of this revamped council structure are to ensure broader participation from representatives across various professional fields in shaping policy decisions. Furthermore, the council intends to ground its decisions in reliable data and align practices with current international standards, while also paying more focused attention to the needs of patients.

In a formal statement, the Ministry indicated that these renewed efforts are anticipated to result in more consistent planning, implementation, and evaluation of all national cancer control measures. This restructuring is designed to help ensure that Lithuania’s oncology policy remains aligned with contemporary national goals and the priorities set forth by the European Union. A key structural change involves the composition of the council.

Going forward, the council will consist exclusively of full members. These full members will hold the authority to participate in and vote at all council meetings. Their representation will cover established oncology clusters of healthcare institutions, as well as dedicated children’s oncology centers, thereby strengthening the governance structure of the council.

This move is intended to create a more cohesive and data-driven approach to oncology care across the nation.
