Investigation Launched into Shchyrin Municipality Procurement Processes

A joint investigation has been initiated by the State Special Prosecutor’s Office (STT) and the Panevėžys District Prosecutor’s Office concerning potential irregularities within the Shchyrin district municipality. The probe focuses on public procurement processes, specifically examining whether a single contractor was afforded unduly favorable conditions. The investigation’s core concern centers on the transfer of real estate assets.

Authorities are assessing whether properties were acquired or paid for at prices significantly below market values. Allegations of bribery and blackmail are also being explored as part of the inquiry. As of the initial phase, no formal charges have been filed.

The Organized Crime and Corruption Investigations Department of the Panevėžys District Prosecutor’s Office is overseeing the investigation, following a decision by the STT.
