The Lithuanian team of Kaunas “Žalgiris” is returning to the team that played in the past

K. Vecvagaras has recently solidified his role within the national basketball structure, signing a two-year contract that extends through the conclusion of the 2027-2028 season. This appointment solidifies his tenure as a key coach within the latvian basketball community.

Vecvagaras’s recent coaching tenure has been marked by success. In the previous season, he took the helm as head coach of the Valmiera Glass Via team, leading them to victories in the Latvian-Estonian Championship, the Latvian Championship, and the Latvian Cup. Prior to assuming the head coaching duties, he gained valuable experience serving two seasons as an assistant coach for the same Valmiera organization.

Furthermore, he joined the latvian national team coaching staff last summer, expanding his coaching portfolio. The 32-year-old strategist brings a substantial playing background to his coaching endeavors. During the 2010 to 2016 period, Vecvagaras was a prominent player for Kaunas “Baltu” and Panevėžys “Lietkabelis.” Throughout his playing career, he achieved notable success, securing three Lithuanian Basketball League titles.

Additionally, his professional playing experience included participation in 22 Euroleague games. His combination of recent domestic championship success and established playing credentials positions him within the national coaching staff.
