The initiative aims to enhance the quality of the visitor experience for both permanent residents and tourists accessing the area. According to Minister Taminski, a primary objective of the redevelopment is to establish a stronger functional link between the port facilities and the city.
He noted the mutual dependence between these two hubs, stating that the port’s efficiency relies on the city, and vice versa. The development is intended to create a compelling destination within these public spaces, which serve as the most direct access point to the sea. Therefore, the structure is envisioned not solely as an administrative facility, but as a central point of attraction for the people of Klaipėda and visitors alike.
The reconstructed building itself spans nearly 2.5 thousand square meters and will incorporate a dedicated passenger waiting hall, a feature previously unavailable at the New Crossing. This improved infrastructure is crucial for managing passenger flow and enhancing overall connectivity. By upgrading this key gateway, the project seeks to solidify the region’s logistical capabilities while simultaneously improving the appeal and usability of the immediate urban environment.
The enhanced facility is positioned to better support the flow of people and goods, thereby strengthening the entire transport corridor connecting the mainland to the Spit.
