Polish border authorities reported multiple incidents of illegal crossings and subsequent detentions along the Lithuanian-Polish border over the weekend. According to reports from the Polish border guards, officers from the Palenkė Border Guard Detachment detained six migrants on Friday, followed by three on Saturday. Sunday saw the highest number of apprehensions, with authorities detaining 25 migrants, in addition to three individuals acting as couriers.
During routine patrols, several significant border violations were uncovered. At the Seinas Border Guard Post, an operation resulted in the detention of a 26-year-old Ukrainian national who was found transporting six Afghan citizens in a vehicle bearing Czech license plates. Furthermore, officers stationed at Rutka-Tartak detained a 23-year-old Indian citizen.
This individual was found transporting three Afghans and one Pakistani national. Separately, a Ukrainian citizen was also detained at the same location for transporting six Pakistani nationals across the border. Following the weekend’s activities, the apprehended migrants were subsequently returned to the custody of the Lithuanian border guards.
The couriers involved in the incidents remain detained while investigations continue regarding the specifics of the illegal transit. These operations highlight ongoing efforts by border guard units to monitor and secure the border area.
