The Presidential Office reacted to S. Skvernelis’s words

During an interview for the podcast, S. Skvernelis addressed the public statements made by the country’s head regarding the corruption case in which he is accused. Speaking with the current leader of the Democratic Union “For the Defense of Lithuania,” Skvernelis emphasized his stance, stating, “I want to emphasize—I am not saying that this is a political case.

It is a case that has acquired political aspects. And those aspects are very clearly laid out, and they will definitely be examined.”

He further cautioned against discussing Lithuania’s legal system at this juncture, noting that preparations were underway. Following these remarks, Skvernelis indicated his intention to pursue the matter in Strasbourg due to what he perceived as statements made by high-ranking politicians concerning his case.

When reached for comment regarding the legal strategy of politicians facing corruption charges, representatives for the President’s office stated that the office “does not comment on the defense strategies of politicians accused of corruption.” This official response followed the discussion involving Skvernelis and the new leadership of the Democratic Union. The exchange highlighted the ongoing tension between the legal proceedings and the political commentary surrounding the case.
