Latest data from Eurostat highlights significant disparities in rental costs across European capitals. According to the report, the average monthly rent for a two-bedroom apartment in London exceeds 3,000 euros. In stark contrast, the European capital of Skopje reports a much lower average cost of only 470 euros.
Sofia, Bulgaria, continues to rank among the most affordable European capitals. Meanwhile, Vilnius is categorized among medium-priced cities, where the average rent for a comparable two-bedroom apartment is approximately 1,200 euros. An expert quoted by EuroNews cautions that focusing solely on rental prices provides an incomplete picture of housing affordability.
The expert notes that the true measure of affordability is tied to individual income levels. Furthermore, the cost of rent across Europe has been increasing in recent years. This upward trend is attributed to several factors, including increased housing demand, migration patterns, elevated interest rates, and a persistent shortage of new housing supply.
Despite these rental cost variations, economic forecasts indicate positive signs, suggesting signs of recovery and projected GDP growth across the region.
