The Klaipėda County Municipality has announced the mandatory closure of the railway overpass located between Priekulė and Vilkyčiai, near Dreižiai. The closure is scheduled to commence on July 7th at 8:00 a.m. and is expected to conclude on July 17th at 4:00 p.m.
This necessary infrastructure intervention stems from an assessment revealing the poor structural condition of the existing overpass. Officials noted significant deterioration, including the formation of a trench within the road surface passing beneath the structure, alongside general damage to the roadway. These deficiencies were identified as potential hazards to public road safety.
The planned repairs are comprehensive, aiming to modernize the entire segment. Key components of the project include the installation of a new rubber composite overpass structure. Furthermore, the project scope involves the complete renewal of the adjacent road surface.
Beyond the primary structures, the municipality will also implement a new water drainage system, and upgrade critical supporting infrastructure, including signaling, communication, and electrical networks. Specific parts of the overpass itself will also undergo renewal. This extensive rehabilitation effort is designed not only to repair the physical damage caused by the railway crossing but also to enhance the overall resilience and safety of the transportation corridor.
The work addresses multiple facets of infrastructure maintenance, ensuring that the combined road and railway components meet modern safety and usability standards following the closure period.
