The Rokelių Street overpass in Kaunas is being demolished – an automobile tunnel will be built in its place

LTG Infra, a subsidiary of LTG Group, announced on Wednesday the signing of a contract for a new infrastructure project valued at 13.9 million euros, inclusive of VAT. Transportation Deputy Minister Roderikas Žiobakas stated that the development is expected to enhance traffic safety and contribute to the modernization of the broader transport system. Arūnas Rumskas, the interim general director of LTG Group, highlighted that modernizing railway infrastructure necessitates moving away from single-level junctions.

He explained that these junctions are being replaced by viaducts and tunnels designed to meet stringent European Union safety standards. The project underscores a commitment to upgrading critical transport arteries. While the announcement signals significant improvements to the region’s connectivity, it also draws public attention to the scope of change.

Related discussions have focused on the impact of these upgrades on major roadways, such as the A1 and A2 motorways, prompting questions from drivers regarding specific alterations. The focus on advanced engineering solutions, including the construction of viaducts and tunnels, suggests a comprehensive overhaul of key transportation corridors. This initiative by LTG Infra and LTG Group aims to improve the reliability and safety of both rail and road travel, fundamentally altering the existing street and rail network.

  1. This tunnel sounds like it should significantly improve traffic flow and safety in that area.
