The season has barely begun, wages are astronomical, and there is nobody to work for: “Something happened during the pandemic”

The Employment Service (UŽT) reports significant labor shortages across the region, noting that approximately 180 companies in Palanga are currently lacking over 200 workers. Furthermore, an estimated 50 employers have not yet finalized their staffing teams for the upcoming summer season in Palanga. According to UŽT press officer Mildos Jankauskienės, analysis of three-year trends indicates that Klaipėda registered the highest number of job vacancies over the past five months when compared to the previous year.

To mitigate staffing gaps, employers are implementing various incentives to attract labor. These offerings include bonuses of up to 100 euros for referrals, as well as providing complimentary accommodation and meals. However, the labor market faces challenges regarding worker commitment.

Young job seekers, according to reports, are often reluctant to commit to the entire duration of the summer season. This hesitancy increases the risk that workers may depart if the job proves unsuitable or overly demanding. These staffing issues impact businesses preparing for the peak tourist period.

The need to secure reliable personnel remains a critical concern for local industries as they prepare to operate through the busy season.
