Members of the Seimas’ Health Committee (SRK), alongside a representative from the National Health Fund (VLK) and institutional staff, convened on Wednesday to discuss the operational indicators and overall situation at the Klaipėda city polyclinic. Media reports have highlighted concerns regarding staff retention, citing insufficient salary increases and suboptimal working conditions as contributing factors. The head of the polyclinic attributed the staffing challenges primarily to inadequate funding.
Data provided by the National Health Fund indicates a significant decline in medical personnel over the period spanning the first half of 2024 to the first half of 2026. Specifically, the facility experienced a 27.7% reduction in its doctor workforce and a near 17% decrease in nursing staff. In 2025, the polyclinic reported having a total of 289 employees.
Addressing the staffing gaps, the polyclinic’s deputy chief physician, A. Pūras, clarified that some departures were attributable to employees reaching retirement age, noting that the search for new medical professionals is currently underway. The discussion focused on the immediate needs of the local health sector and the necessary structural support required to stabilize the workforce and improve patient care services within the facility.
