The call for proposals for the 2026 International High-Performance Sports Competition Projects Funding Competition has been issued for the second time. The evaluation process for submitted applications is structured into two distinct pools. The first pool considers proposals for organizing world and European championships or their associated stages, while the second pool addresses applications for lower-tier competitions.
A significant allocation of the available funds, totaling nearly 157,000 euros, has been designated for the European U20 (up to 20m.) Basketball Championship. This event is scheduled to take place in Alytus and Klaipėda from July 4th to July 12th. Organizers noted that this U20 girls’ basketball championship is positioned as a preparatory event for the European women’s basketball championships slated for Lithuania the following year.
Furthermore, hosting the U20 championship marks a historic occasion for the country, as it will be the first time such an event is hosted in over a century. The national team participating in the U20 tournament is considered a key development pipeline for the senior women’s national team. The support provided by these international funds underscores the commitment to developing high-level sports infrastructure and hosting major international competitions.
