The U20 girls’ team, which did not take advantage of the chances, suffered a severe blow in the extra time

Lithuanian women initially held a commanding lead of 59:53 after the first three quarters. However, the fourth quarter saw a significant shift in momentum. During the opening six minutes of the final period, the team managed to score only two points, bringing the score to a tie at 61:61.

Despite this setback, Lithuania managed to regain a slight advantage, leading 66:65 with just 1 minute and 22 seconds remaining. The scoring remained fluid in the closing minutes. Following an initial sequence where Gabija Galvanauskaitė missed two consecutive free throws after drawing fouls, the lead shifted once more after the Spanish squad was penalized with a double foul.

The ball was subsequently advanced by Lithuanian captain Danielė Paunksnytė, who executed a precise pass into the penalty area. Galvanauskaitė was fouled again by a Spanish player; she successfully converted the second penalty shot, tying the match at 67:67. The Spanish team attempted two subsequent shots, neither of which found the target, necessitating extra time.

In the additional quarter, the Lithuanian team demonstrated superior performance across the court. The overall resilience shown by the Lithuanian squad throughout the challenging minutes ultimately defined the outcome of the closely contested match.
