According to Giedrius Vaičiulis of the Department of Fire Protection and Rescue, the majority of emergency calls received on Thursday concerned incidents involving fallen trees obstructing roadways. In total, 22 calls reported trees blocking the carriageway. Furthermore, crews addressed four separate instances where trees had fallen onto power lines, alongside one reported case of a tree dangerously leaning over a farmhouse.
Vaičiulis confirmed that there were no reports received regarding fires caused by lightning strikes. The Alytus region accounted for the most emergency calls, receiving eleven reports. Firefighters were dispatched to other areas, including the districts of Kaišiadorys and Marijampolė, specifically to manage and remove hazardous trees.
The department also noted a specific difficulty encountered during operations. Following rainfall, an incident occurred in Apidermio village within the Kruonio seniūnija of the Kaišiadorys district. A large tree was observed dangerously leaning over a house; however, the severity of the situation, marked by broken branches, prevented rescue teams from safely removing the obstruction.
Overall, the data highlights that fallen trees remain the primary cause of disruption requiring emergency services intervention. While the frequency of infrastructure damage was recorded multiple times concerning power lines, the department emphasized the ongoing efforts to manage environmental hazards impacting public thoroughfares.
