They are investigating whether dangerous goods have entered the Lithuanian market – they found a substance that could cause cancer

The UK product safety authority has issued a report concerning the toy “Squeezy Dumplings,” determining that the item presents a significant chemical hazard to human health. Investigations revealed that benzoic acid was found in the outer layer of the product at a concentration of 20 mg/kg. Beyond the chemical contamination, the authority noted deficiencies in the item’s compliance documentation.

Specifically, the report highlighted a lack of clear identification data on both the packaging and the product itself, necessitating immediate improvements to labeling and marking procedures. Benzoic acid is classified as a hazardous chemical substance. Exposure risks associated with this compound are substantial; inhalation can irritate the eyes, nose, and throat.

Furthermore, direct or prolonged exposure may lead to irritation of the skin and gastrointestinal tract, and can cause fluid accumulation within the lungs. Regulatory bodies have also classified benzoic acid as a human carcinogen and a mutagen. Due to these identified chemical risks and labeling deficiencies, the product has been formally withdrawn from circulation and is no longer available to final users within the UK market.

The safety authority mandates that manufacturers address these material and labeling shortcomings before any future market reintroduction.
