The state “Ignitis Group” and its managed Energy Distribution Operator (ESO) presented preliminary financial assessments to Finance Minister Taurimas Valiu on Monday concerning the recent power grid disruptions. These initial calculations outline the projected costs required for the restoration effort. The estimated expenditure for the physical restoration of the power grid is set at approximately 10 million euros.
Furthermore, an additional 5 million euros has been budgeted to cover customer compensation for the extended service interruption, which spanned 72 hours. Separately, the ESO intends to proactively cover direct losses, such as those incurred by the spoilage of food, fuel shortages, and generator usage, amounting to another 2 million euros. It is important to note that these figures are preliminary.
The group stated that the final calculations will undergo refinement as the damage assessment and subsequent restoration work continue. As of Tuesday morning, the assessment confirmed that approximately 17,000 consumers remained without electricity, indicating that the full scope of damages is still being quantified. The meeting provided a detailed overview of the financial implications stemming from the outage.
While the initial figures provide a framework for necessary funding, the ongoing nature of the repair work means the final required investment and the total amount of compensation payable will be adjusted accordingly. The Ministry and the utility are continuing their efforts to accurately assess all damages to ensure comprehensive recovery.
