Compensation guidelines for St. John’s Day stipulate specific pay rates for workers. On this designated day, workers are entitled to at least double the standard pay for the observance of the holiday.
Furthermore, any overtime work performed on this specific day must be compensated at a rate of at least 2.5 times the normal hourly rate. A key point of clarification concerns the transfer of the holiday. According to labor regulations, the holiday is not automatically shifted to the subsequent working day.
An expert source explained that the Labor Code does not provide for the automatic transfer of a holiday that falls on a rest day to an alternative working day. Consequently, workers should not expect an additional rest day on a Monday or any other working day simply because St. John’s Day falls on a Saturday.
Ieva Piličiauskaitė-Dulkė, head of the Labor Law Department, noted that while workers sometimes anticipate receiving an extra rest day when a holiday coincides with a weekend, such a provision is not established within the Labor Code. Therefore, the statutory guidelines regarding pay and the scheduling of the observance day remain fixed.
