Three hours of coalition negotiations: they haven’t talked about names yet, the Democrats’ proposals “will have a price” (4)

Negotiations concerning the formation of a governing alliance are currently focused between the Social Democrats and the Democrats, with the Farmers party slated to participate in subsequent discussions. Following a meeting held on Wednesday, Social Democratic leader Mindaugas Sinkevičius provided an overview of the proceedings. Sinkevičius noted that the discussions were structured around specific programmatic areas intended to identify points of common ground.

He stated that while one particular block of issues consumed the majority of the allotted time, the content itself represented core policy objectives that could potentially unite the parties. According to Sinkevičius, the Democrats demonstrated thorough preparation, presenting detailed proposals outlining what they envision for a potential coalition agreement and program. These submissions detailed specific policy changes and shared goals.

The Social Democratic leader concluded the exchange by suggesting that, overall, there were no essential disagreements among the participating groups. However, Sinkevičius also cautioned that the substantial topics discussed and the proposals put forward by the democrats and the Social Democrats would still require comprehensive review. The next phase of negotiations will therefore involve a detailed assessment of their submitted plans to solidify the framework for any future governing partnership.
