Time to get up from the couch: experts advise how to promote physical activity

Dr. Arūnas Emeljanovas, a professor at the University of Vilnius Faculty of Medicine, stated that while various supplements are available, no single remedy can guarantee longevity. He emphasized that true health extends beyond merely avoiding illness or disability.

Instead, it encompasses a complete state of physical, mental, and social well-being. According to Dr. Emeljanovas, engaging in physical activity positively impacts all three dimensions of health.

He noted that regular movement can significantly reduce stress levels and is associated with a lower risk for over 40 different diseases. Furthermore, consistent activity has been shown to delay the onset of dementia and various mental illnesses, while also supporting social engagement. These cumulative benefits, he argued, directly contribute to achieving desired longevity.

Dr. Emeljanovas maintains professional connections with Karol Dineyka, the laureate of the Karol Dineyka award and director of the Druskininkai Eglė sanatorium, and Domas Nedzvins, a physiotherapist and co-founder of the Sense of Movement school. His insights underscore the multifaceted nature of wellness, positioning lifestyle choices, particularly physical activity, as fundamental to comprehensive health maintenance.
