To make it easier to choose: we asked universities and colleges what they offer and what they are tempting future students to do

A recent inquiry by Lrytas.lt surveyed seven prominent higher education institutions regarding planned enhancements and recruitment strategies for incoming first-year students. These institutions detailed the new resources and offerings they plan to provide to prospective students. According to the Lithuanian Association of Universities for General Admission (LAMA BPO), the upcoming admissions cycle presents students with a selection of 15 universities (comprising 11 state and 4 non-state options) and 13 colleges (including 7 state and 6 non-state options).

The allocation of state funds for the next intake has been established. These funds are designated to admit a total of 12.9 thousand first-year students. This total is distributed across the sectors, with 8.7 thousand spots reserved for universities and 4.2 thousand for colleges, alongside 90 places for short-term studies.

Beyond the quantitative aspects of admissions, the article noted a recurring concern within the educational sphere: the perceived over-emphasis on final examinations within the Lithuanian academic system. The landscape for new students is therefore characterized by a wide choice between public and private institutions at both the university and college levels. While the state funding mechanisms dictate the capacity for new entrants, institutions are simultaneously working to enhance their appeal through revised curricula and student support services to attract applicants across the diverse educational pathways available.
