On Saturday morning, officers from the VSAT Coast Guard Border Guard District of Palanga conducted routine checks on the Klaipėda–Liepoja road, near the Lithuanian border with Latvia, specifically in the vicinity of Būtingė in the Palanga district. The patrol unit stopped a vehicle carrying a 67-year-old Latvian resident. During the documentation process, the individual presented a Latvian passport that did not appear to include full citizenship credentials.
During the routine inspection, the officers noted a noticeable odor of alcohol emanating from the driver, leading them to suspect intoxication. Consequently, local police were called to the scene to conduct further checks. The driver was subsequently subjected to an alcohol breath test.
The readings recorded were 0.64 promils on the first puff and 0.53 promils on the second. Authorities determined that these measured levels qualified as a light degree of intoxication. The incident occurred at a key border crossing point, highlighting the enforcement procedures utilized by border security personnel.
