According to reports from the Special Investigations Service (SST) issued on Tuesday, V. Petkevičienė, a former member of the Birštonas City Council (serving from 2019 to 2021), is accused of abusing her official position. The allegations concern the submission of advance statements for her council member allowances, which reportedly contained potentially inaccurate documentation regarding expenses for fuel and television services.
The SST claims that these actions allegedly resulted in a financial loss of 1,819 euros to the Birštonas District Municipality administration. Despite the allegations against her past conduct, V. Petkevičienė remains an active council member, having resumed service this year.
This continued role follows a mandate annulment initiated by the Supreme Election Commission (VRS). The VRS revoked the mandate of another Birštonas City Council member, D. Zdanevičienė, following Zdanevičienė’s conviction in a case involving “chéquiukus.” The Commission’s ruling confirmed systemic issues within the Birštonas City Council, leading to the annulment of Zdanevičienė’s mandate and establishing the current composition of the council.
