Two packages with phones were found in Marijampolė jail within two days

On May 31, security personnel conducting checks of the perimeter area between posts discovered a package secured with adhesive tape. Upon dismantling the package, two mobile phones were recovered. The following day, June 1, officers located another package, also taped shut, within the inner perimeter between posts.

This second package contained six mobile phones and three SIM cards. These instances highlight the routine security measures implemented by the Lithuanian prison service. Officers routinely conduct thorough inspections of the territories and perimeters surrounding penitentiary institutions.

These consistent controls are designed to prevent the unauthorized introduction of prohibited items into the correctional facilities. The Lithuanian prison service, specifically at the Marijampolės facility, remains vigilant in its security protocols. The recovery of these items underscores the ongoing efforts to maintain a secure environment within the institutions.

The discovery of both sets of items—the initial finding of two phones and the subsequent recovery of six phones—demonstrates the diligence of the staff in monitoring potential security breaches. These regular sweeps are essential components of maintaining institutional security and preventing contraband from entering the premises.
