Intensive infrastructure renewal is currently in progress on the A2 motorway connecting Vilnius and Panevėžys. Beyond the recently reconstructed Taujėnai and Ukmergė (Dukstenė) viaduks, work is now actively underway on the Vaitkuškis and Kurėnai viaduks. Juras Taminskas, who is temporarily leading the Ministry of Transport, stated that the comprehensive reconstruction of viaduks and bridges is occurring across Lithuania.
The A2 motorway is recognized as one of the nation’s busiest routes, making the reconstruction of its viaduks a necessary undertaking. Taminskas emphasized that the primary objective of these efforts is to ensure that all journeys are not only comfortable but also safe for every road user. He noted the consistent nationwide effort to upgrade vital infrastructure.
“We are consistently carrying out the renewal of bridges and viaduks throughout Lithuania,” Taminskas stated. “This year, work has started or will commence on more than 50 objects, with some slated for completion within this year.” He confirmed that the A2 motorway’s viaduks are part of this ongoing program, with reconstruction activities either underway or scheduled to begin. These continuous improvements are aimed at maintaining the safety and efficiency of Lithuania’s key transport corridors.
