For the upcoming Euro 2028, new UEFA qualifying rules dictate that England, along with other organizing nations, will be placed within one of twelve designated groups. These groups will comprise four or five teams and will compete alongside all 50 European national teams vying for a ticket to the final tournament. While the English national setup has indicated acceptance of this format, viewing it as valuable preparation and competitive practice for the squad, the group structure also incorporates Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland.
All participating groups will compete to determine qualification status. Under the revised system, every group winner will automatically secure a place in the main tournament. This structure ensures that qualification slots are distributed based on performance across the entire qualifying cycle, rather than solely on hosting status.
