Ukraine has extended its assistance through the European Civil Protection Mechanism, an initiative that includes ten countries outside the European Union. Thomas Mimiague from the Gironde firefighting service noted on Monday that “Any help is useful and valuable. Ukraine offered its support, and we, of course, agreed.”
Chrystyna Perzowytsch, representing the Ukrainian disaster management service, acknowledged the spirit of mutual support.
She stated that while Ukraine is currently experiencing significant challenges due to ongoing conflict, including bomb attacks and power supply disruptions, the nation remains committed to aiding other countries to the best of its capacity. “We always try to help other countries to the best of our ability, because it’s the same for us,” Perzowytsch remarked. She further emphasized the transnational nature of emergency response efforts, stating, “Firefighters are like one big family, regardless of borders.” Perzowytsch added that the relationship between Ukraine and France is one of consistent support, noting, “When Ukraine needs help, France always helps us.” This exchange of support underscores the cooperative nature of international disaster relief, with Ukraine’s contribution being valued alongside the assistance it receives.
