V. Blinkevičiūtė says that the “Social Democrats” are ready for anything: a decision on a coalition in the Vilnius neighborhood of Klibai, the seats of several ministers

M. Sinkevičius is exploring a potential shift in Lithuania’s governing coalition, reportedly considering withdrawal from the “Nemuno aušra” coalition and entering negotiations with the “For the sake of Lithuania” Democratic Union. Preliminary discussions have centered on potential ministerial portfolios and allocations.

The Democratic Union is seeking control over three key ministries: Energy, Environment, and Agriculture. Lukas Savickas, Tomas Tomilinas, and Kęstutis Mažeika are proposed candidates for these positions. Initial reports suggested Sinkevičius’s unwillingness to remain within the existing ruling majority, but the situation has reportedly changed.

Currently, Sinkevičius is contemplating a broader restructuring that includes a potential transition to the role of Prime Minister, aiming to replace Inga Ruginienė. He has engaged in direct discussions with the current Prime Minister regarding this proposed leadership change. The negotiations between Sinkevičius and the Democratic Union represent a significant realignment within Lithuanian politics.

However, the ultimate decision regarding Sinkevičius’s intentions – whether to alter the coalition structure and pursue a change in leadership – remains unresolved at this time. Further developments are anticipated as these discussions continue.
