V. Juškevičius, who beat a young child in Raseiniai during Christmas, is asking for the case to be dropped

According to Eltai, the press officer for the LAT, Tautvilė Merkevičiūtė, confirmed the receipt of a cassation complaint filed by the lawyer representing V. Juškevičius. Merkevičiūtė detailed that the complaint requests the annulment of a district court conviction related to serious health impairment and public order disturbance.

Furthermore, the filing seeks to overturn the previous decision made by the appeal court that had dismissed the appellant’s cassation complaint. The complaint was formally submitted to the LAT selection commission, which is responsible for determining whether the matter merits examination by the high court. The report also provided context regarding prior legal proceedings involving the individuals mentioned.

Previously, R. Žemaitaitis faced legal action for anti-Semitic statements. Separately, the Appeal Court had imposed a one-thousand-dollar fine in April.

In another case, a cassation complaint concerning an incident involving injury to a minor during Christmas 2022 resulted in a half-year prison sentence for the defendant. The submission of this new cassation complaint highlights ongoing legal challenges within the judicial system. The LAT’s review process means that the commission must first assess the procedural merits of the case before the court can proceed with a full review of the appeals.
