V. Sinkevičius about the opposition’s appeal to the Constitutional Tribunal regarding the LRT amendments: the democrats may support it

During a press briefing at the Presidential Palace on Friday, V. Sinkevičius emphasized the constitutional necessity for all legislation adopted within the country. He asserted that adherence to the Constitution must guide every law passed, a principle he stated is in the interest of all political stakeholders.

The politician specifically addressed the recent legislative changes concerning the National Radio and Television (LRT). Sinkevičius criticized the process by which the Seimas adopted new amendments to the law governing the LRT in early June, describing the procedure as disorderly. Addressing political tensions, he spoke to the opposition, stating that the current environment does not warrant accusations of political targeting or undue scrutiny.

He cautioned against viewing the legislative process as a campaign of persecution. Instead, Sinkevičius framed the debate as a concern over procedural integrity. The core of his argument centered on ensuring that any modifications to major media legislation, such as the LRT statute, undergo a transparent and constitutionally compliant process.

He implied that the manner in which the recent amendments were passed raised questions about the legislative methodology, suggesting that the alignment of new laws with foundational constitutional principles remains paramount for national governance.
