VDU climbed to the second place in the European Student Sports Ranking

Students from VDU achieved significant success at the recent European University Games and the Old Continent’s student ding class championships. A major highlight occurred in the 2000 meters double sculls final, where VDU students Benas Paunksnis and Giedrius Bieliauskas won the event, clocking a time of 6:32.69 and securing a gold medal for the university. Further participation saw Gerald Gavrilov compete in the men’s single-handed ding class final.

Gavrilov finished in third place with a time of 7:18.70. The championship title in this event was claimed by the representative from Reading University (Great Britain), while the Latvian university rower secured the silver medal. These notable achievements substantially bolstered VDU’s medal count.

Following the competitions, the university accumulated a total of three gold, two silver, and four bronze medals. This impressive haul places VDU in second position on the EUSA tournament table, trailing only Zagreb University. The results underscore the strong performance of the VDU athletic program across the various university-level competitions.
