Vice Minister: The first years of e-tolling are aimed at collecting more than 110 million euros

During a meeting of the Budget and Finance Committee of the Seimas on Wednesday, officials detailed the projected revenue goals for state road funding. According to a deputy minister, the initial objective is to generate revenues exceeding 100 million euros, with targets set at 110 million euros or more—representing a doubling of the current collection rate. Currently, an estimated 70 million euros are collected annually through the existing vignette system.

The deputy minister clarified that all revenue streams generated from the electronic tolling system, referred to as “Via Toll” in Lithuania, will be channeled directly into the State Road Fund. These dedicated funds are earmarked specifically for the comprehensive reconstruction, development, and ongoing maintenance of the nation’s state road network. Furthermore, the discussion addressed the future structure of the tolling system.

D. Sujetaitė noted that the planned abolition of the toll system on January 1, 2027, implies a targeted application of the fee. Specifically, the charges will be focused on heavy and commercial transport vehicles that predominantly utilize the state road infrastructure.

These figures highlight the state’s commitment to securing substantial financial resources for its transportation arteries. The projected increase in the amount of euros to be collected underscores the financial necessity for upgrading and sustaining the national road network, ensuring that the revenue generated supports critical infrastructure development for commercial and public use.
