When buying a neglected manor, the citizens of Kaunas did not expect to find such details: “His history is exceptional” – the only one in the area

Giedrė Ūselytė-Bagdonavičienė, the owner of Daukšiagirė manor, presented the property by focusing on its notable history, captivating attendees from the outset. She explained that the manor was constructed in 1887 by the Jewish Frenkel brothers, designed in the historicist architectural style. The Frenkel family was prominent in regional property ownership; the brothers collectively held several estates.

Specifically, the eldest brother, Sijus Frenkelis, owned Pagermonių manor, while Meironas owned Aštuonėliai and Naujadvaris, and the youngest, Dovydas, was associated with Daukšiagirė. According to Ūselytė-Bagdonavičienė, the inspiration behind the construction was a deep appreciation for amber, a material that later developed into a modern international brand. She highlighted the manor’s unique status, noting that it is exceptional because Jewish families in Lithuania did not traditionally build manors of this scale.

Architecturally, the facade is characterized by a high degree of romanticism and incorporates various symbolic decorative elements across its four distinct manor buildings. The presentation emphasized the depth of the manor’s history, framing it not only as a significant piece of real estate but also as a cultural landmark reflecting the aspirations and tastes of the builders. The combination of its historical context, the scale of the family properties owned, and its unique architectural character establishes Daukšiagirė manor as an outstanding example of late 19th-century Baltic architecture.
