You won’t have to stop – this point no longer carries border control: “The torture is finally over”

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares addressed the “historic” development, noting that this development followed the agreement reached between the European Union and the United Kingdom in February. The arrangements took effect on Wednesday, July 15, eliminating previous checks for people and goods moving across the land border. Consequently, Gibraltar is now closely integrated with the Schengen area and the new customs regulations of the EU.

Moving forward, passport control will be conducted exclusively at Gibraltar’s airport and port. These modifications are expected to impact over 15,000 individuals who cross the border daily, representing approximately half of the workforce in Gibraltar. Previously, these travelers frequently encountered significant delays at the border during peak hours.

Furthermore, the agreement is anticipated to bolster economic cooperation within the region. The changes aim to streamline movement and commerce, establishing a more integrated operational framework between Spain, the EU, and Gibraltar.
