Major General R. Jurskis is slated to assume the role of the head of the KASP, succeeding Major General Darius Vaicikauskas, who has held the position since 2023. The formal ceremony marking the change of the KASP head is scheduled for Friday at the inner courtyard of the Trakai Peninsula Castle.
During the ceremony, a transfer of command items will take place. The outgoing KASP head will present the regalia of the head of the Ground Forces, specifically the scepter. Major General R.
Jurskis brings extensive experience to this new role. He previously served in the capacity of head of the KASP headquarters from 2019 to 2021, having transferred to his current duties from the Lithuanian Army’s Defense Staff. His operational background includes service with the Mechanized Infantry Brigade “Geležinis Vilkas” and a tenure as the Head of the Engineering Battalion.
Furthermore, the general has participated in international military operations in Iraq in 2003 and Afghanistan in 2014. He is a recipient of the Lithuanian Order of the Cross of Vytis. The transition marks a significant leadership change for the KASP.
The official handover ceremony will provide a public forum to recognize the service of the outgoing general and formally install Major General R. Jurskis as the new head, ensuring continuity in the command structure of the Ground Forces.
