The Russians have reached a new low: they are returning cars from a famous manufacturer to the market, but there is one detail.

Production of certain cars is currently taking place at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad, a facility that previously engaged with international automotive manufacturers. Following Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, BMW formally withdrew its operations from the country. The current assembly of famous BMW models is being presented as a recommencement of the brand’s presence in Russia.

However, the legitimacy, licensing status, and official connection of these vehicles to the German corporation remain subjects of inquiry. According to the Russian Telegram channel “Avtorevizorro,” Avtotor has commenced the assembly of several luxury BMW SUV models that were not previously supplied to the Russian market. Among the models reported to be assembled are the BMW X7, X6, and X5.

It is noted that these vehicles do not represent the most current versions of these cars. In related geopolitical developments, Russian President Vladimir Putin has acknowledged the damage inflicted by Ukraine while assuring the public that the situation is undergoing rapid recovery. Despite the stated return of production, questions persist regarding the full compliance and authorized status of the assembled vehicles in relation to the original German manufacturer.
