M. Sinkevičius’ message to the Seimas and opponents: “Let’s not split, let’s not belittle each other” (3)

The determination regarding the new prime minister was postponed until the evening following the country’s head’s visit to Poland, where the Ukrainian reconstruction conference was held. Upon returning, the president proceeded to the Seimas. During the event, the seating arrangement appeared predominantly composed of representatives from the ruling majority, with limited representation from the opposition.

Prior to this public engagement, the president met with the prime minister candidate, G. Nausėda, the day before the summer recess, conducting discussions that lasted over an hour. Subsequently, the president confirmed discussions with the prime minister candidate nominated by the “Socdems” party, alongside deliberations concerning the potential cabinet structure.

Addressing the public, the president stated that, in adherence to the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania and considering the current political climate, a decision had been made to appoint the prime minister candidate. While confirming these discussions, the country’s head refrained from disclosing any specific names or providing a definitive outline of the final cabinet composition. The statements indicated that the process of forming the government remains incomplete.
