An alliance has been established involving leading corporations, startups, academic institutions, and military representatives from both the European Union and Ukraine. This coalition aims to determine the strategic direction and accelerate the development pace of European armed forces’ drone capabilities. Within the 18 founding board members, the Lithuanian representative is the only one of its kind, marking a unique national participation in the initiative.
The Alliance’s structure is designed to operationalize the “Drone Deal,” an agreement announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Furthermore, its objectives are integrated within the EU’s broader “Readiness Roadmap 2030” defense planning framework. The core mission of the new body is multifaceted: it seeks to foster joint Ukrainian and European company ventures, expedite the research, creation, and mass production of next-generation drone and combat systems, and systematically dismantle existing bureaucratic and certification obstacles.
The membership base is comprehensive, including key market participants, representation from the European Commission’s DG DEFIS, and officials from the Ukrainian government. These collaborative efforts signal a concerted effort to bolster regional defense industrial capacity. The foundational meeting for the founders is scheduled to take place in Brussels, setting the stage for tangible policy and development actions concerning advanced aerial technologies.
