An international effort to support Ukrainian parliamentary personnel has been launched following high-level discussions involving regional leaders. The impetus for this action originated when Algirdas Stončaitis, the Chancellor of the Seimas, met with his counterparts from other Baltic and Nordic nations, alongside representatives from Ukraine’s Parliament. During these discussions, the Chancellor of Ukraine’s Supreme Rada appealed to his colleagues for assistance in providing rest and rehabilitation for the members of the Supreme Rada who have been impacted by the ongoing war.
In response to this appeal, the Seimas Chancellery spearheaded an important initiative. The Chancellery subsequently reached out to Lithuanian municipalities, sanatoriums, and various rest and rehabilitation centers. These institutions were invited to contribute to the ongoing healthcare needs of the Ukrainian Supreme Rada workers and their families who have been affected by the conflict in Lithuania.
The collaborative effort has seen tangible results. For instance, the Eglė sanatorium stepped forward to provide a comprehensive package of 50 days of healthcare and rehabilitation services, doing so without charging any compensation fees. This action demonstrates a commitment to supporting the wellbeing of the Ukrainian parliamentary body.
The support framework, managed through the Seimas, highlights regional solidarity in addressing the humanitarian consequences of the war for the members of the Rada.
