Significant changes in the Maxima chain – will let some employees go

According to information relayed by UŽT representative Milda Jankauskienė, a total of 126 workers have received warnings regarding their employment status. These individuals are all employed within the meat processing sector. The impact is most concentrated in the major urban centers of Vilnius, Kaunas, and Klaipėda, with only one to three affected workers reported in other cities.

The scheduled dismissals are anticipated to occur between August 1 and October 1. The basis for these workforce reductions is cited under Article 57, paragraph 1, point 1 of the Labour Code. This provision stipulates that an employee’s role may become excessive for the employer due to organizational restructuring or other operational changes within the company.

The broader agricultural sector is reportedly facing mounting pressure from multiple sources, particularly concerning the escalating costs of food production and the ongoing challenges presented by the fertilizer crisis. Regarding the 126 warned workers, the company has provided clarification that 49 of these individuals are transitioning to different roles within the organization, or are currently on leave or experiencing temporary incapacity. Nevertheless, the final figure of 126 remains the reported number of affected workers.

The scale of the warnings represents a significant adjustment for the workforce, despite internal reassignment efforts.
