According to the ministry, significant investments are being directed toward enhancing regional energy infrastructure. Specifically, projects in Rokiškis, Šakiai, and Šiauliai represent an investment totaling 19.55 million euros. The successful implementation of these initiatives is projected to generate 24.8 megawatts (MW) of new renewable energy production capacity.
In addition to these established projects, the Vilnius district municipality has already submitted an application seeking investment for a 15 MW solar power plant. Furthermore, the ministry is providing technical assistance to ten other municipalities—including Tauragė, Biržai, Ignalina, Visagino, Kupiškis, Jonava, Druskininkai, Kaunas, and Švenčionys—to aid in the development of comprehensive business plans and subsequent investment applications. The core objective of establishing these energy communities, the ministry explained, is multifaceted: to mitigate energy poverty, bolster regional energy independence, and consequently reduce expenditures by the public sector on electricity.
This substantial development effort is supported by a total financing package of 192.64 million euros, drawn from the state budget and various public funds. These targeted investments underscore a strategic national focus on decentralizing and modernizing the local energy supply system.
