In April 2021, a locomotive driver left the railway station in Varėna and proceeded to rearrange the warehouse at the loading terminal without responding to a request to halt. Following the incident, the driver was found to have a moderate level of intoxication, measuring 1.92 percent. Consequently, the driver received an administrative fine and was dismissed from his employment.
LTG Infra acknowledged that the accident was caused by their employee. The company agreed with the owners of the damaged property that compensation for the damages would be provided after an expert examination and assessment of the consequences. According to reports, negotiations regarding the matter continued for nearly three years, with both parties attributing the causes of disagreement differently.
Following two train accidents, a control meeting was held, during which discussions were held regarding potential investments, but no timeline was established. It was reported that if negotiations fail to reach a peaceful resolution, the Gretvita compost company intends to file a lawsuit in 2024. This claim will seek damages exceeding 577,000 euros, covering both direct and indirect losses, against the plaintiff and their family.
