The Mayor of Palanga shared what is happening on the coast: in this resort, it has long been forgotten

The beaches of Palanga are currently undergoing a significant cleanup effort following the accumulation of a large amount of seaweed washed ashore by the Baltic Sea. Municipal utility teams have been actively working on the coastline since early morning to remove the accumulated organic matter. Gediminas Valinevičius, head of the municipal utility team, stated that the volume of seaweed observed is considerable, noting that such a large deposit has not been seen in a long time.

Following an assessment, the team determined that the debris poses a noticeable impact on the coastal environment. Authorities anticipate that the process will be ongoing, as a substantial quantity of seaweed remains within the sea, suggesting that wave action may deposit more material in the coming days. Consequently, the cleanup operation is projected to require at least three days to clear the entire stretch of beach.

Municipal workers have implemented a continuous schedule, commencing early mornings and continuing through the following two days to ensure the beaches of Palanga are thoroughly cleared. The sustained effort aims to restore the natural appearance of the shore after the recent influx of marine debris.
