In the top of the government, there is a wildcat of change: the team of the Finance Minister and the Speaker of the Seimas is emerging

Representatives from a political party presented a list of names to journalists on Tuesday, naming Edita Ragaišienė, who currently manages the Economic Development and Investment Department of the Kalvarija Municipality, as one of the candidates being considered for the post of Chancellor. The Seimas approved the program for the new government, led by the Prime Minister of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), on Tuesday. The approval now precedes the swearing-in ceremony for the appointed ministers.

Significant cabinet changes were announced, including Taurimas Valys taking over as the Minister of Finance, succeeding Kristupas Vaitiekūnas. These appointments signal a shift in the composition of the executive branch. During the proceedings, comments were made comparing the current selection process to a previous appointment of a designated Minister of Finance.

The distinction highlighted was that the current team structure emphasizes that all deputy ministers are members of the LSDP, with professional experience in finance cited as a primary selection criterion. The passage of the government program by the Seimas marks a major legislative milestone, setting the stage for the formation of the new administration. The confirmation of key figures, such as the new Minister of Finance, underscores the party’s strategic focus on internal alignment and specialized expertise within the incoming cabinet.

The successful passage of the program and the subsequent oaths are the final steps before the new government officially assumes its duties.
