During an appearance on LRT television on Tuesday, M. Sinkevičius stated that the current administration intends to maintain consistency with the policies of the previous government regarding relations with Belarus. He emphasized that there are no plans for any imminent revision or review of our bilateral relationship with the neighboring country.
Sinkevičius confirmed that existing sanctions remain in effect, noting that these measures are not only national in scope but are also European in nature, with an extension scheduled until February of next year. He added that the leadership does not anticipate taking a leading role in any immediate policy shifts concerning this issue. Addressing international efforts, he acknowledged the initiatives from American strategic partners aimed at securing the release of political prisoners detained by the regime.
While commending the efforts of the former Trump administration representatives and the special envoy, he cautioned against expecting significant changes in the near term due to ongoing governmental transitions. These comments followed reports from ELTA concerning criticisms directed at the proposed framework of the 21st Government Program. Overall, Sinkevičius maintained a stance of adherence to established policy frameworks regarding geopolitical relationships and sanctions enforcement.
