Opposition is questioning the legitimacy of the 21st Government, M. Sinkevičius urges not to let events unfold

A source speaking to LRT TV cautioned that while the Constitutional Court may address the matter if asked, such statements do not guarantee a ruling or a definitive decision from the court. The opposition parties contend that the government program was submitted without adhering to the procedures stipulated by the Constitution, specifically arguing that the program was presented before the cabinet received formal approval. Conversely, the Prime Minister stated that the government program was presented during a Seimas meeting following the President’s decree on signing.

The chairman of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) suggested that the opposition was misusing terminology. When commenting on the implications of the government program, the LSDP chairman issued a warning regarding its potential impact. However, the Prime Minister countered these claims by emphasizing the established timeline, noting that the government was officially registered in the Seimas on Friday, and the program was subsequently presented before the cabinet was fully approved.

These conflicting accounts highlight a significant procedural dispute regarding the establishment of the new administration. The core disagreement revolves around whether the submission of the governing agenda complied with all constitutional requirements and the mandated sequence of legislative steps. The differing interpretations create legal uncertainty regarding the immediate validity and implementation of the proposed government platform.
