During an operation on the night spanning Tuesday to Wednesday, authorities detected a violation of the state border. The pursuit of the individuals responsible was undertaken by dog trainer R. Rusteika, accompanied by his service dog, Moka.
Moka, a Belgian sheepdog, played a crucial role in the apprehension effort. The tracks led the team through a complex and difficult terrain, encompassing both forested areas and marshland. At certain points, the water depth in the marsh was significant, reaching the chest level of border guards.
Despite the challenging conditions and the darkness of the night, the combination of the dog and its handler successfully located and apprehended the group of four illegal migrants. Following the incident, R. Rusteika and his colleague, Aušra Adomauskaitė—a border guard from the Uosto border control detachment of the Pakrančių apsaugos rinktinė—returned to base from Latvia on Wednesday evening.
The successful operation highlights the specialized skills utilized in border security. Furthermore, the article notes the ongoing commitment of Lithuanian personnel to border security. Since July 1, Jiedu, along with seven other Lithuanian border guards, has been actively assisting the State Border Guard Service of Latvia in maintaining the integrity and protection of the border with Belarus.
