The United States recently initiated a new wave of actions directed at Iran. In response to these developments, Iran subsequently carried out attacks targeting US-related assets located in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait. In separate domestic news, Lithuania saw a significant legal development concerning local governance.
The Lithuanian Political News Main Election Commission (MEC) revoked the official powers of the mayor of Marijampolė, P. Isoda. This MEC decision regarding the Social Democrat was subsequently upheld by the Lithuanian Court of Appeal following a ruling in a “chit-chat” criminal case.
Last week, P. Isoda was found guilty of charges including abuse, fraud, and document forgery. The court imposed a final fine of 10,000 euros, payable within two months.
Furthermore, the court issued a criminal deterrent measure, stripping the mayor of the right to work in public service for a period of three years. The Social Democrat has stated his disagreement with the court’s findings and intends to appeal the decision.
