Kasčiūnas on Plepytė’s removal from the vice-ministerial ranks: Budrys no longer has his own team

Minister Budrys has reportedly indicated his willingness to accept all conditions stipulated by the Social Democrats to retain his position. According to Kasčiūnas, the structure of his current advisory group does not reflect independent selection, noting that the Social Democrats’ Politburo is responsible for selecting and installing members into his team. Addressing Žinių Radijas on Friday, Kasčiūnas also voiced strong reservations regarding the appointment of Plepytė, asserting that such a placement is not beneficial to Lithuania’s national interests.

The conservative politician emphasized that the removal of this individual is advantageous, suggesting that Plepytė previously held potential access to influential American circles, including those connected to Donald Trump’s camp. These comments follow reports that Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius announced earlier this week that Plepytė would no longer be serving on the minister’s team. Following that announcement, a replacement was subsequently appointed to the ministerial role.

The developments suggest a significant realignment of political support surrounding Minister Budrys, whose authority and internal support structure are now closely tied to the directives of the Social Democrats.
