Justina Indulytė, a communications specialist for AB „Panevėžio special auto transport“ at the Šilai cemetery, stated that the company staff immediately began efforts to remove debris following the natural disaster. However, the true scope of the damage only became apparent after initial inspections. According to Indulytė, the storm exposed vulnerabilities, noting that not only were the grounds unprepared, but the cemetery trees had also impacted the graves themselves, damaging monuments, tombstones, and other grave structures.
The immediate response has involved prioritizing safety. Crews are currently focused on removing trees that pose an immediate danger to the public. Additionally, broken branches are being cut away, and pathways and access routes are being cleared to improve navigability.
